David Simson 4 Posted February 7 Hi, Has anyone removed the steering wheel from their 205GTI? Looking down the cavity I'm wondering if there's a special tool / socket which is needed to remove the wheel. Can anyone please advise? Secondly, I have a daily runner, a Vauxhall, and closing the bonnet is easy. I never drop bonnets; it makes me cringe. Besides, if they're set correctly there's no need to. I just push on the curved front edge (never the top of the bonnet) and the Vauxhall just clicks into place perfectly with hardly any pressure. My 205 is a whole different animal. It's unbelievably tight and I sometimes have the push 3 or 4 times really hard to get the spring on the bonnet to engage and lock into the slam panel. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a (recommended) way of adjusting it so it easily locks just by gently pushing it? Thanks for any ideas on either subject. Cheers, Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Tom Fenton 1,620 Posted February 7 Nothing unusual about the steering wheel, 21mm nut from memory, loosen the nut but don’t remove totally, rock/pull the wheel to get it off the taper. For the bonnet try adjusting the pin if it will move, by unscrewing it from the bonnet then re tighten the locknut. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Leslie green 151 Posted February 7 (edited) Just a socket possibly 22mm not sure and an extension bat to remove when tilt it side to side holding the rim until it releases .My bonnet closes when i drop it from about 12 inches , its probably too tight and you can reduce the tension by winding back the slot in the striker after loosening the nut behind it ,sometime the rubber buffers at the side are too high up so you can wind them down a little at time until they just touch the bonnet when closed. SRDT 226 Posted February 7 Tom is right, you can remove the wheel if you pull it toward you while rocking it. You must not remove the nut from the column.
