Bremar 7 Posted January 3 Hi, does anyone know where I can find the trim code location in my 1993 Peugeot 205 Gentry so that I can get the correct leather dye or paint for the seats. Also any recommendations for a repair kit? For the hole in the bolster? The drivers leather seat is a bit damaged and I want to have a go at repairing it and painting/dyeing the cracks in the worst areas. Never tried this before so a learning curve for me. I’ve been looking for 12 months for 205 Gentry seats but nothing has turned up yet. Mine look a sort of light grey colour tho someone suggested they should be tan?? Thank you Brett
SRDT 230 Posted January 3 It should be Impala beige FCX.
Leslie green 157 Posted January 4 (edited) Gentry's are very rare so finding another set of front seats in good condition given the age of the leather now is unlikely . Edited January 4 by Leslie green
DamirGTI 358 Posted January 4 Ive done my first set of leather seats , complete front and rear and steering wheel too . Myself also never tried before but found it not as hard and very rewarding . There was similar sized hole on the driver seat which i plugged up with some scrap leather piece , fabric glue and leather repair filler in which i added ground pieces of leather .. and you really can't tell now that there was a hole on that seat . Buy quality leather filler (not the Chinese stuff !! I tried and its crap !), dye alnong with the sealer/top coat (theres glossy , semi glossy, matte) , fabric glue , sponge and consumables .. First clean up the seat with alcohol , then apply the dye with an piece of sponge to the entire seat .. the dye will soften the leather so it'll be easier to work with repairing it with the filler . Then dye once again on the end and seal with top coat . Not much point me taking about it in detail , but rather watch some how to videos on YouTube as i did the same .. and with some practice the result is indeed superb ! How long will the repair last time will tell , but people who do that for a living say around 5 to even 8 years at which point it'll need redoing again . Oh also , don't bother with products in a kit/set like 3M and the likes they're for very small spot repairs .. buy material separately good quality dye and filler are essential . Have fun ! Bremar 7 Posted January 8 Thank you SRDT.I’ve been hunting for that everywhere. Certainly no where I can find it on the car itself. Thought knowing that 3 digit trim code would be the answer spoke to some trimmers and gave them the code but they couldn’t match it to anything. It does look like it will be trial and error and or mixing myself to get a suitable leather paint match. Thanks again.
Bremar 7 Posted January 8 Hi Leslie, my leather isn’t hard so I think I will give up on trying to find a replacement seat/ leather from an unwanted seat. I have re-sown the split sown joints in the seat side squabs with a light grey Marlow no4 Whipping Twine that I’ve had around. Not brilliant but ok. I think I’ll try the “hot gun” approach ( if that’s a real thing) to remove the puckering on the seat. Thanks Brett
Bremar 7 Posted January 9 Hi DamirGti You’ve done the whole interior! Thats Impressive . I guess yours was off the road. I’m using mine occasionally even tho it’s winter so would like to get that drivers seat back in asap. I have to admit, I have gone with a kit, but I can understand its limitations in terms of the size of the material they give you and the quantity of filler. I went for the grey kit from furniture clinic and from Amazon I did this simply because it came with a variety of tint colours that I could add to the basic grey of the kit. I’m not sure tho as I’ve not done it yet before responding to you. I used a leather cleaner first on the whole seat and then on the area I’m dealing with I’ve used isopropyl alcohol as I alreadyI had it. I’m trying to get my head round using a dye, then the filler then the dye and then finally painting with topcoat. I think my problem you can’t seem to be able to mix up a dye. I can only mix the topcoat paint to get my colour. Have to say there are so many videos to watch on YouTube, and not all are that good You mentioned quality leather filler. Is there any chance you could be more specific? Thanks Brett
DamirGTI 358 Posted January 9 Yeah , mixing the dye to the factory seat colour is a bit tricky .. ideally find someone in UK who can mix up the dye using code or via sample piece . Dye is water based , but is a bit specific for use on leather and similar fabric materials . Or have a look if theres any in spray can , Dupli Color makes few variants i've seen some kinda like yours I used "Leather Expert" branded stuff , from Poland .. They have various mixed up colours ready for use so might try and have a look if theres any which matches you're seats .. If you'll be doing whole seat best to use small spot repair spray gun on low setting (2 Bar maxi) i tried first to dye mine with sponge but i wasn't happy , needs to be sprayed really . Bremar 7 Posted January 11 (edited) Finally just out of interest I found the following label under the steering column. I can not read French but I’m sure it’s saying amongst other things that the interior trim colour of my Gentry is IMPALA CY. The label also shows my vin number which corresponds to the rest of the car. if anyone fancies interpreting the rest of the label that would be great. once again this forum is streets ahead of anything similar. Thanks Brett Edited January 11 by Bremar
SRDT 230 Posted January 11 You don't need to speak french, that's spanish. I've never seen a PeugeotTalbotEspaña,S.A sticker like that before, once the car was finished it was probably removed for it's original spot then stuck there upside down. FCZ is the code for Impala beige plastic parts bdw.
