Camshaft Markings...

1989 1.9 D6B XU9JA

Was aware there are markings (paint rings/dots) on the camshaft and sure enough there's evidence of some on my own.

Have gone back and re-read a few old posts, but nothings leaping out at me as a match for what I'm seeing.

Am I correct in saying mine should just have 2x rings at the dizzy end?

Below is what's on mine, and yes there's a mark (4) outside of the head.

Mark 1, 3 and 4 are more or less all lined up, whereas 2 is approx 180 degrees around from them, on the opposite side, should it matter.

Difficult to get across in actual images (all are faded/worn), hence the sketch.

I wouldn't describe any of the marks as being rings or dots either, they're all roughly 1 to 1.5 cm. / possible they were white at some point, but now light brown'ish.

1 to 4 are to denote the markings found on my camshaft.

Two paint rings on the end od the cam on the dizzy side yes that's the D6B camshaft 100% checked .

This OE documentation for some reason missed adding D6B, so i written it myself !

(Sorry for crooked image , need to learn using this "smart" technology ..)

Cheers... Tried taking some images of the marks on mine, with limited success unfortunately.

Are the factory marks actual rings that go completely around the circumference?

If so, mine are as you can see, just short 'dashes' instead, and a little ragged looking at that... starting to think they're maybe someones own later additions and the factory ones (in the correct format) are gone.

The mark I've indicated at 3 on my sketch is more or less central between the lobes, whereas your twin marks (1 and 5) are more to one side or the other.

The mark I have at 2 on my sketch is offset to one side  and would correspond to 2 on your image.

The mark I've shown at 1 on my sketch, I'm going to ignore for the moment, now that things are a little cleaner it's so faint I'm starting to doubt it even is one.

Likewise the mark I have at 4, it sits outside the head all together, something that reinforces my suspicions these aren't factory applied.

Using your image then, so at a stretch I've potentally 1 +2 or 5 + 2 (depending on if you want to treat my central mark at 3 as being instead towards one lobe or the other), and neither of those combinations conform to any of the engines on your list.

When the camshaft's out I'll get them to record the dimensions accurately and see where that takes us.

Might be from Citroen , ZX or the like i've had some weird ones from those D6E aka Motronic 3.1 engine ..

At least theres no drive for mechanical fuel pump so rules out some cams .. try to measure it with veriners , for rough comparison it'll be enough .

The BX Sport cam has the same lift and durations than the XU9JA and can drive a fuel pump. As for the ZX the D6E cam has the same part number and durations than the D6B from the 205/309.

Thanks... can't seem to get the same measurement twice using my old dodgy verniers.

Hoping to maybe even get the head down to the machine shop later today, I'll ask the nicely to get me some provisional details!
