205 Xrad - Xud9te Maintenance

Recommended Posts

Robbiedundy

Hello, I've just got my old 205 xrad van back and looking to do some maintenance on it before putting it back on the road.

I've been looking to try and find out which coolant hoses would've been used for the engine conversion as the lower hose from the heater matrix is split - would any of the BakerBM reproduced ones work for this?

Also, it has one of the chinese aluminum rads from ebay but is weeping slightly between the fins near the top so I'd like to replace it, I've seen reviews from others saying they've also had leaks from the chinese ones too. A few people run the standard width radiators on their dturbos - what's your guys thoughts on this?

Cheers,

so it was the non turbo XUD7 and is now the XUD9Turbo intercooled right ?

it might have split from turbo heat which is nearby

I protected mine with a foam sleeve on the outside and 3 or 4 spacers to prevent rubbing

could not find the part number at all, and photo is impossible unless you've got the engine out

on my XUD7T it runs out from firewall, bends down, bends left and bends again to go forward to attach outlet at back of block. about 15mm ID

if your XUD9TE hose is the same route I dont think theres any BBM ones that would fit from the packet

suppose you could use a joiner ?

not sure what a std width rad is but I use my original 1.6 petrol Si rad for the XUD7T. works well

nice rims, you can get black plastic centres for them too

really depends how the conversion was done, which donor it came from and how much of the original pipework was used.

Last year the radiator went on my dturbo xud7te, looked allover for a replacement.
I even had the spare off my gti which was in good condition but when you start looking at fitting it the pipes and mounting locations are all wrong.
in the end bit the bullet and found a company to import me a genuine Nissens one, this wasn’t cheap at all but fit back perfectly and hasn’t missed a beat since.

Depends what you want to spend, this was what I bought and who from

I just bought a cheap standard diesel rad for my Dturbo conversion and had no problems with it, maybe its just luck. Can't help with the hose, but I believe they are different to the GTi hoses, but I would have thought all the diesel heater hoses would be the same.

Is it still using the top mount intercooler?
