Engine dilemma

Recommended Posts

series111

Hi all I am looking for a bit of advise / general opinions.

As some of you may be aware I have been restoring my 1.9 gti in which it has an Mi16 engine installed totally refreshed with Baker/ spoox hoses, 4 branch manifold etc.

However, I am a bit concerned that this may devalue the car, as it is has been totally restored and looking at the prices these are only going one way.

Would you put it back to standard?

If so how much do you think the mi16 engine is worth as a complete kit.

Thanks

Who are you building it for, you, or profit?

If it’s for you, stick with the Mi.

Thanks for the reply Tom the intention is to sell next year but having driven it with mi I feel it drives so much nicer.

Just weighing up the options as I have been building it over the last 3 years and I don't want undersell all my hard work

I wouldn't worry about it.

In my opinion, a properly installed Mi16 is more sort after than a GTi-6 conversion and just as desirable as a good 1.6 or 1.9.

I’d sort the Mi16 engine out properly, if you don’t have the original engine.

How do you identify an original engine in the UK anyway?

That's good to know the engine has been installed properly correct angle, hoses for the conversion and 4 branch manifold mated to an orignal exhaust. I've also shortened the wires for the fuel pump relays so they now sit with ecu under the dash rather than in a box on the inner wing.

I've tried to make it look as close to a factory install as possible.

Looks like a better shortened inlet manifold than the last one I had to fix. They haven’t done the weld preparation correctly, and thus the lumps. Mine have no lumps and after bead blasting, impossible to tell it’s been shortened. It all looks very tidy though and worth keeping.

I shortened it and a work colleague welded it up for me I didn't dress it up after.

But not a bad idea Peter  as it would look much better.

The more positive comments I am hearing from yourselves it makes sense to keep the mi, plus personally I think they drive better.
