Piper 285 vernier pulley position

Recommended Posts

Rallyepalmer

Hi guys,

If anyone is running a Piper 285 cam, could you please let me know where you have positioned your vernier pulley? On a 1.9 if it makes a difference. I have stripped my pulley to give it a good clean but can't remember where it was set beforehand. I'm guessing setting a cam to 106* would be near enough the same vernier setting on every engine or am I over simplifying it?

Regards

Normally you time to cam to a certain* lift @ TDC. (* which should be included in the information of the cam)

You can also use the lobe centre line (LCL) method for installing a cam. The cam manufacturer will also be able to tell you what LCL = lift @ TDC. For example, a 106º centreline might correspond to 0.130" lift at TDC.

If using the lift @ TDC method, don't forget to subtract your valve clearance.
