Selling tomorrow now won't start!! Urgent help please

Recommended Posts

As per title, I'm finally letting my gti6 engined 205 go after 13 years of ownership and the person is collecting it tomorrow.

It's been dry stored for the last 2 years and started fine last week, as it always has done. Now it's just turning over and not even attempting to fire. Fuel pump is priming but it doesn't sound as loud or as stable as usual. New fuel has been added and battery is also new.

The crank sensor went a few years ago but can't remember if the fuel pump still primed? Could it be this? Any other ideas?

Many thanks!!

Fuel pump will still prime with both a faulty crank sensor and a locked ECU.  Does suggest that the fuel pump relay is working however (same relay also powers other things).

Can you remove a spark plug and crank it over to see if you have a spark or not?

Cheers Anthony. Car is at the farm and it's only me, so difficult to do. Will check in the morning.

Thanks

Try this .

Use easy start spray for testing purpose :

- if it starts and runs on spray then there's spark but no fuel

- if it doesn't start , nor does it want to run on spray (not even a cough) , usually no spark (or weak spark) , or can be both no spark and no fuel (to divide that further : take the plugs out and see if they're wet or peek down the cylinders with an flashlight see if the piston crowns are wet from non ignited fuel .. if so then there's fuel , so lacks just the spark)

Maybe it just needs "kick in the a*** alarm bell" to wake up ! .. easy start spray will do in that case , should be fine afterwards after first initial startup .

Also could be moisture somewhere in the wiring loom/connectors etc. if it was damp lately .. unplugging the connectors and spraying them with contact cleaner or WD-40 should do the trick with those .
