205 GTI tribute -1.6 16v (TU5JP4S)

Hi All, just bought my 6th 205 and the only one which hasn’t been a GTI!

I like building a car, I get more enjoyment from the project than driving sometimes! As much as I like a ‘proper’ GTI, the values are too high now to be buying one to mess about with and ultimately reducing its value!

I picked the car up as a low mileage 3 door base model with poor bodywork, Initially I will be getting the car all built together then once I’m happy get the whole thing resprayed.

So far I have swapped out the front shocks and springs for AST coilovers, with AST shocks on the rear. I have a GTI front subframe and rear axle to go on at some point too with bigger brakes. 1.1 carb engine out, C2 VTS engine in, along with a GTI fuel tank and new fuel setup, new driveshafts. It is currently on the standard box until I modify a 2nd hand pedal box I have to accept a clutch master cylinder. I have fitted the GTI bumpers (front needs replacing as it’s cut out from a turbo’d car) with all the GTI arches awaiting all the clips/fittings before I tackle that job. I have just swapped out the interior for 306 cabriolet full leather- rear seat back still needing a bit of work before its fully “in” and big visual thing for me- amber indicators!

it runs and drives nicely, 2” exhaust system I made up is not too loud. The full conversion and wiring was done in a couple of days, stock power is 125bhp but with a 4-2-1 decat manifold and set of cams I am hoping for around 150bhp

Colour wise I’m thinking Cherry red....

before I picked it up.....

Updates- cosmetically  I have now fitted the GTI arches and swapped out the tired headlamps for a good condition used set. I am just waiting for a couple of red trims to pop up on ebay that I need and they will be swapped over. I also have a new GTI front bumper coming for christmas to replace the one I have which had been cut out for a big intercooler!

The GTI rear axle is on, this has an uprated anti-roll bar, AST dampers and braided brake lines, I adjusted the height up a bit as it was too low from the track car I removed it from. It has 1.6 front brake calipers fitted for the rear brakes which I think are causing me issues with next to no braking and no cable handbrake (track car had twin cylinder pedal box with hydro handbrake) so next step there is to swap for some standard 1.9 calipers with a 406 master cylinder. I have also swapped out the front brakes to a C2 VTS 266mm setup- for the power I will be running and the fact it wont be going near a track I decided not to fit the 283mm setup as 1. I don't think its necessary, and 2. there is quite a noticeable weight difference!

I have a fuel pressure issue to sort- it holds just shy of 3 bar and wont go over, I need 3.5 bar for the VTS engine, I have found the rubber joiner in the pump unit that fits between the unit and the pump itself is split so the pressure/fuel is leaking back into the tank. if anyone has a used complete pump unit spare (even if the pump itself is shot) please let me know!

I have an tu5jp4s as well. Standard cam with ITB, 7500 rev limit, 2' pipe with 2 dampers and no cat. 155 bhp-ish.
