Lower Polyurethane engine mount DIY

Recommended Posts

I decided to share this with you all. My 205 GTI lower mount is the original at 77k km and had some small cracks in the rubber. I read and watched how difficult it is to replace the bushing of the mount, or that I could buy a polyurethane bushing. So I did what I did for my son's 106 GTI, filled up the space between the rubbers in the mount bushing with PU from both sides. I cut some plastic round washers from a milk bottle, that serve as side support for the PU until it dries. See the photo.

Please note, that even though I have bought a new lower mount for the 106 , I have not installed it yet, because the experiment started in 2016 is still going strong. That is when I filled his mount bushing with PU. At the time, his gear stick was moving when pressing the gas pedal after changing gear, and after the "repair', there was a little noticeable vibrations (stiffer mount), but in a few days it all smoothened, and the stick has not moved/loosened since.

Also , you should know that now the 205 GTI does not display a moving  gear stick upon applying gas. However, because I could see the cracks, I preventatively filled it up.

Another improvement I did is visible in the photo, is I put heat shield pipes on the water hoses for the heather matrix. I cut the pipes in the middle and just placed them on top of the water hoses without disconnecting the heater hoses.

That's all, I am a little ashamed for the long post!
