Measuring valve lift

Recommended Posts

Afternoon all a bit of a Random question. How are you guys measuring lift with a dial gauge? I can’t seem to get anywhere near the lifter to get a accurate reading on my gti6 engine.

At the moment no special cams but as there’s not a lot else to do I thought I’d play around in the garage and learn a bit.

just a longer than standard probe, needs to be fairly thin but still stiff enough to not deflect.

I’ve got 3mm tig wire as a extension but can’t seem to get on the lifter to get a accurate result.  If that’s all you do I’ll need to try harder lol. Are you measuring on cylinder 1 or 4?
i proabably need to make a new plate for the magnetic stand to sit on which may make things a little easier
