Hi Guys,

I need to fit a 21 mm pin into the 20 mm Gti 6 rod.

is it safe/possible to open up the small end diameter the extra 1mm?

or should I open it an fit a 21 mm new busing?

thanks.

As the o.e pin a press fit into the rod, I am not sure it is a bush .Others here will know better. My instinct is to re bush to 21mm if that is possible .

I assume the 21 pin is full floating? Then you really need to bore at least a 22.5mm hole (0.75mm wall thickness min) in the GTi6 rod. Is there enough material left to support the bush? What piston has a 21mm pin?

Thanks ,

Should be enough material for 22,5 mm.

the piston is full floating, JE made them.

1.9 Mi16 pins are 22mm, but GTi6 are indeed smaller. I believe 20mm is correct.

Thanks guys.
I used some custom rods for My JE pistons. All good now.

anyone know How deep pockets I Would need to mill in Std. GTI6 pistons to make room for solid lifter higher lift cams?

thanks.

you can go +1mm safely on the standard crown, which is enough for mild fast road cams.

anything bigger will need an aftermarket piston with much deeper cutouts and a higher compression to suit the longer duration

That's a "how long is a piece of string" question. Until you've cut valve seats and done a trial assembly, you'll never know. Any solid cam worth installing will need the pockets deepened by at least 3-4mm. You'd probably want to cut open a piston and assess how much material is there.

Bridgecraft engineering have done that for us already a good few years ago.

Thanks guys.

Right on the button Peter. I was counting on you to answer like that when I wrote the question :-)

What did Bridgecraft find out? How much material is available?

like I said in my posts, you can add 1mm to the depth safely.
