Got a little spare time this aft to put the decals and badge on the back. I also fitted the rear bumper trim. The pts stripes arnt at the correct angle that they should be but I have a long strip of it so I might do that part again at some point. Fitted some new number plates too. Starting to look the part on the outside. Really like the rear end of these! Couple of befores too

I have a base model 3 spoke steering wheel which i have fitted. Thought I'd attempt to make the centre badge/nut cover look like the rallye. Ordered a decal to stick on the middle so I'll post some pics up when it's done see how it looks. I put light coats on and used a heat gun to dry it quickly. It's give it a bit of a rough effect like it was before I sanded it flat. Looks shiny in the last pic but it's matt finish without the light.. Looks ok actually

Forgot to add. I got the gearboxes back yesterday. One was ok. The other needed repairing and my mate who checked them had some bits for it so he repaired it.  I've got 2 good boxes now, both 1.6 too which is good.

Seller wasn't sure about this, I bought them in the for sale section. Owe my mate a favour cause he didn't charge me. Hopefully I'll get a spare day to change it over to manual soon. Need to get the interior looking nicer so I'm on the lookout for door cards etc

Haven't had much time to do a lot with the car recently. I found some 205 rallye clocks though so I bought them and fitted the rev counter into my clocks. I thought it would be a straight swap but had to mess about with them a bit to get it to fit. I also have a hole where the clock adjuster was. The lens on the rallye clocks were different. Not sure if they would of just plugged in and worked in which case it might of been easier to swap the speedo over from mine to the rallye clocks

I had a spare pedal box which I bought with the clutch pedal on for swapping it to manual. I'm using a be1 gearbox so thought I'd have a go at using a hydraulic slave cylinder rather than the be1 cable setup. Looks like a berlingo slave cylinder will fit on the be1 box so just needed to make a master cylinder fit the pedal box. I found another thread about this but could only see one picture which wasn't very clear but I got an idea or how to go about it. I cut away the bottom of the pedal box which hold the cable and replaced it with a plate that the master cylinder could be bolted to. After I welded it  on I drilled a few holes and it fit next to the pedal and cleared the servo. Not sure if the pedal will be any lighter but I suppose it's probably more reliable than the be1 setup

Just waiting for a spare Saturday now so I can swap the gearbox over. Looking forward to getting it done now so I can drive it, I've only drove it on the road once when I picked it up. Hopefully have some 309 goodwood seats coming so will have the interior looking better too.

Is the be1 cable setup  that bad? The be3 setup can work fine for many miles.

Not too sure. I had a be1 cable setup let me down in bad traffic quite a few years ago. Cant remember what happened. I think the bracket that holds the cable broke and subsequently I lost the pin. For this car though I didn't have the l shaped bracket that pivots on the gearbox or the pin that goes with it. It looked like buying them and  a new cable would cost me more than the master cylinder which was £12, I hava a berlingo slave cylinder lying around and plenty of brake pipe/fittings. I had the spare pedal box too so just thought I'd have a go. I spent a few mins between each job working on this on my toolbox so I suppose it cost me no free time and i got paid to do it also : ) ... I'll update on how it works and feels when it's done.

Hi guys. Not had much time recently to do much to the 205... but I do have plenty to be going on with. I bought a 205 project from the for sale section which came with lots of gti parts. I sold a lot of them to cover the money I had in the car as I bought it for the gti suspension, brakes and phase 2 interior. It also came with a 1.9 engine which I might use

I took the engine apart and it looked as though it has had some work done at some point. However, it looked like it had been sat outdoors for some time and there was water in the sump. I took the head and block to the engineers, the head has been skimmed and pressure tested but the block needs some work. Crank needs grinding, new liners etc. I'm going to pick this up and repair it as and when I get time

The interior is almost complete. The front door cards are phase 1.5 and the clocks are missing so I'll need some clocks before I fit the dash. The seats are early half leathers. They're not in good condition but could be used to 'retrim or sold on and replaced with something else. Had some time to fit some of the interior

Just the front door cards and dash to fit. I might not bother fitting the front door cards until I find some later ones, ideally xs without the red carpet at the bottom.

Ive painted all the subframe and suspension parts ready to fit with new lower arms, anti roll bar bushes and links and will probably fit this at the same time as changing the gearbox over

Also heard about this 205 local to me. All the parts are there it's just been sat a few years. The sills and inner wings are solid. It has a couple of bits of rust here and there and the nearside rear wing is damaged but looks like it's worth saving. Ive spoke to the owner and agreed to buy it. I was going to start putting it back together and get it back to my garage but due to this lockdown it looks like it's gonna be a while before I can get it. Was Looking forward to having a gti. Might be another project thread in the future.

Hi guys.. so I've had a bit of spare time just recently... We have closed up buisness for now but have the phone on divert and I'm going in every now and then to do work on some of our regular customers cars police/nhs staff ect so while I've there I've done some bits on my 205. So like i said I have phase 1.5 door cards and the rest of the interior is phase 2. I was going to wait for some phase 2 cards to come up but as I have some spare time on my hands I thought I'd try dye the phase 1.5 door cards. They might need a few more coats but have come out quite well actually. Just need to fit them

I've also had time to swap out the auto box. Still have some work to do but the manual box is in all the linkage etc are on and the GTI subframe and suspension is on. I'm going to use the standard brakes for now and fit some better brakes to the base model hubs rather than use the 1.6 GTI hubs when I increase the power. Not very good pics of this though

Going to fit the front door panels and the GTI seats for now until I can get some replacement seats, ill post some pics up when its back together. I've even had time to clear the garage out to fit the 205 In

Hi guys. Well a bit of an update on the xl but not much. I put it all back together and put the door panels and gti seats in (Hopefully temporary) I've been out for a few drives in it which has been good. Handles really well but is a bit sluggish altough it feels loads better with the manual box. I've had some euro rallye arches delivered too so I'll be looking at fitting these soon. Looks like they'll take some work to fit nicely

I've also picked up another project car. The 205 gti pictured further up. I've had it on the ramp and it looks really solid. Inner and outer sills look good, boot floor inner wings etc. The engine was on the floor in the engine bay when I bought it and the previous owner said it was running rough so he decided to take it out to put a gti6 engine in. I have no idea if it runs or not so I'm going to connect everything back up and see if I can get it to run. The body work is rough but other than that it looks pretty good. I'll be taking some pictures so I can start another project thread for it but here's a few pics for now. I think I got a bargain too so I don't mind putting money into the body work

Should of added that the chap didn't get very far with the conversion so it still has the 1.6 engine as in the pic. He just dropped the original engine out onto the floor. This was 4 years ago, So I put it back on its mounts a few days ago to get it back here
