ok cool we have a 0.375" ejector pin which should do the job. are the ends of the original tapered?

They're rounded off, look at the cups that receive it and you'll see what it needs to look like.

It's hard to say without a scale but the left one looks spot on assuming it's ~1" long

left is 6mm

right is 9mm

 

both are roughly an inch

Well, it looks about right.

 

I used a bit of an old pen I found in the rear footwell once when the pin fell out in a traffic jam and that worked fine...

wasnt a lot of hassle making them to be fair, just got a couple of offcuts out the scrap bin. and no need waiting for them to be posted. got me out the office for half hour aswell i guess

the pedal is working fine and is level with brake pedal, but the bite is near bottom of travel and cannot adjust the nuts anymore as they are at end of the thread

Have you checked the arm the cable goes onto? They can fatigue, crack and bend as you tighten the cable.

no i haven't to be honest are they easy to replace? 

 

just seemed weird that the new cable makes the pedal sit lower than the old cable.

If it's cracked just take it to someone with a MIG and get it welded up.

The fork that sticks out of the gearbox can come loose on the balljoint inside, or the balljoint itself can come loose, it is just riveted on IIRC.

 

Were the cables identical? Did you compare them?

yes i compared cables and wouldnt say identical but same part number and same length. just different types of plastic /rubber washers
