stu28stu 1 Posted July 23, 2018 Hi All i have tried the search arch as I am sure it’s been asked many many times, i am fine with the mechanical side of things however, i am am putting a 306 1.9td into my 205 which was a standard 1.9d. i am an idiot with electrical stuff the td engine has far more connections than the 205 , all wires are on the donor engine really neatly and all that comes off is a wiring loom with 2 no round plugs , ( which were connected by lh head light on 306 ) how would I wire into existing 205 wiring ? Other searches he’s have just said it’s and easy swap and wiring is straight forward , i have removed over pas and air con if that makes a difference all help appreciated stuart
dcc 855 Posted July 23, 2018 When Welshpug fitted a 1.9dt to a 1.8d for a friend there was no wiring differences. The engines are mechanical pump, so just ensure no immob. on the stop solenoid.
stu28stu 1 Posted July 23, 2018 My 205 has no where near the amount of plugs etc , the 306 engine has 2 going into the fuel pump vs none on 205 will work out out how to post a pic
stu28stu 1 Posted July 23, 2018 So a few pics 1. Engine I want to put in 2.3.4Plugs on fuel pump and oil , alt , 5, relays
stu28stu 1 Posted July 23, 2018 (edited) ok Won’t let me upload any more pics , But only connection out of loom are the 2 round plugs shown in bottom right of pic 1 Edited July 23, 2018 by stu28stu Spelling
dcc 855 Posted July 23, 2018 Iirc when we wired it up we used the 1.8d loom. You need to get rid of the immobaliser bits off of the 306 engine. The engine doesnt need an ecu to run, so everything is self contained. I.e. you give it earth, 12v and switched feed to start stop solenoid and it will run when it cranks. stu28stu 1 Posted July 23, 2018 Ok so I said I was an electrical idiot so the connectors on the fuel pump are not needed just for immobiliser , so better to remove loom that is currently on engine , and use original 205 wires ,
dcc 855 Posted July 23, 2018 I'll let Meirion confirm, but thats my understanding of it.
stu28stu 1 Posted July 23, 2018 Well cheers for help thus far ,!!!
Ozymandis 96 Posted July 23, 2018 (edited) The pump you have in the pic, has an armoured immobiliser fuel shut off solenoid, you need to cut the armour off and put on a simple on off solenoid, about 15 quid on fleabay. The armours a pain in the backside to remove/cut off. its held with security screws, I have had success putting a small conventional masonry bit, the type with a braised tungsten tip, on the screw head and using a masonry hammer drill in reverse. NOISY! Google lucas pump armour removal. the nets full of folk de-armouring lucas pumps. Dremels/grinders etc When you`ve done this, use the nice simple 205 diesel harness and the sensors in the thermostat housing need to match your instrument cluster. They have coloured rings on em for ID. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Diesel-Stop-Solenoid-Peugeot-306-406-Boxer-J5-1-5D-1-7D-1-9D-1-9TD-2-5D-2-5TD-49/390925809620?hash=item5b04fe77d4:g:TmsAAOSw46ha9X0D Edited July 23, 2018 by Ozymandis further info
stu28stu 1 Posted July 23, 2018 Oh dear sounds interesting! so after fighting and getting into the pump I can just change the solenoid to a basic one ; Same as on a standard 205 diesel , just with a 12v live bolted to the top ? Only thing ink left to solve will be the speedo as this engine has a electrical Jobby and 205 was a cable ‘ so all other plugs I can just ignore like the 3 by the oil filler thanks for infom
Ozymandis 96 Posted July 23, 2018 (edited) Yes the basic solenoids the one. If your using any type of BE gearbox, put the 205 speedo drive into your new boxes final drive, its simple to do. Use the 205 harness, you might have to change the odd terminal eg the starter may have a lucar blade or a ring, the oil pressure switch may have a different connector etc Are you using the diesels instrument cluster? If so you only need the left hand sensor (as you look from the front) in the thermostat housing, it triggers the stop light in case of overheating. http://autos*ite.com/topic/26152-xud-stop-solenoid-question/ Edited July 23, 2018 by Ozymandis
stu28stu 1 Posted July 23, 2018 Yes will be using the original 205 d instrument panel , i have the stop solinoid too I’d too the left hand sensor , in the 3rd pic down is that the grey plug with red wire on top , just above oil cooler pipes . Im using the gear box from the 306 td donor , I just changed the connector rod arm from the z shaped one to one I took of the old 205. Did nt think to check if it still had the hole to take the cable speed sensor
Ozymandis 96 Posted July 23, 2018 (edited) 4th photo down, the blue plugged sensor on the left is what you need from your old engine, it does the overheat light. Edited July 23, 2018 by Ozymandis
stu28stu 1 Posted July 23, 2018 Gotcha great thank you , sure there will be more electrical questions as I move on , will post some pics when it’s all done and dimma kit fitted
Ozymandis 96 Posted July 24, 2018 The sensor with the grey plug and a red wire in the 3rd pic is for oil pressure ,use the oil pressure switch out of your old engine to mate to the 205 loom connector, its a simple Lucar blade. 4 hours ago, stu28stu said: I’d too the left hand sensor , in the 3rd pic down is that the grey plug with red wire on top , just above oil cooler pipes . stu28stu 1 Posted July 24, 2018 excellent many thanks !!! I appreciate all your help to me sir you are an electrical Wizard !!!!!
stu28stu 1 Posted July 24, 2018 So after 4hrs with a dremmel I have removed the stop solinoid and replaced with 12v one !,!!! many thanks for your help now change a few connectors and fingers crossed
stu28stu 1 Posted July 25, 2018 You were also very correct about speedo cable that was surprisingly simple to change over ! just a few minor things to do now and I should get engine back in over the week end , get the engine bay tidy , fit the intercooler then I can crack on with preparation of the body work.
