Underdash wiring questions

Recommended Posts

B1ack_Mi16

Working on assembling the sorrento which I resprayed steel grey.

Some "loose" wires under dash now that it would be nice to know what to do with.

1. This one, light bulb, shall the brown single pin connector connect to the brown connection point under dash? What about the yellow one?

2. Red plug with wires 107C and 107B, where does it go? It just hangs loose close to the fuseboard.

3. Brown wire 6J? Also loose close to fuseboard, no idea what it is for...

4. Yellow 75A also hangs in the same area, no idea where to connect.

5. Then there are these two, wire 35 purple and 15, blue. Can't find a location to connect them.

6.  This is the wiring for the right side head light etc. The black wire which is cut, is this for strut top earthing or brake pad wear sensor? Is the yellow connector for the extra lights in the bumper?

7. Related to last pic.. Both one yellow female and one red male  connector on wiring close to left side headlight. Which is which?

I think that's most of what's in the loose for me now, so any help appreciated to get these wires under control.

#2. Wire 107 is the heated rear window, so I'd guess the red plug with wires 107B and 107C would be for the heated mirrors, and would plug into the single-pin socket on the fusebox - in the middle of the 2nd row back (just behind the large black plug with the two thick brown wires). That socket gets 12V whenever the heated window is switched on, so the heated mirrors would come on at the same time.

#4. Yellow plug with wire 75. This is for the choke warning light and not connected on the GTI

#5. Possibly the brake light switch attached to the pedal?

#6+7. The yellow 2-pin plugs are for the driving lamps (or front fog lamps if those were fitted instead in Norway). The red plug is part of the cooling fan wiring, but is only used on cars with air conditioning or diesel models with twin fans. The cut black wire in #6 is for the wear sensor. The earth wire to the strut is further up the loom if I remember.

Thanks a lot.

Ok, some questions back to you again.

#2. Ok, I only found 1 single pin socket on the fusebox, and here I put the blue single pin connector in this picture.
So if I shall put the red one to the single socket, what is this blue one used for then?

#5.. of course, didn't remember that but it looks familiar as you say it.

#6-7. Ok. Yellow ones ok, what about the red one, not used at all in my case then? Not got AC.

What are the wire numbers on the two blue wires? One looks like 330, which I can't find on any of my wiring diagrams, and I can't see the other.

And yes, the red plug isn't connected to anything unless you have AC or a diesel.

The smallest blue wire is 33P.

The other one I'm not sure yet, might check in the evening.

I checked the other wire number.

So small is confirmed 33P, thicker one is 29B.

Ah Ok. 29B is the power for the radio, so the blue plug needs to go to the 2-pin socket near the middle of the third row. You can plug it into either of the two terminals depending how you want the radio to work - one will power the radio all the time, and the other will only power it when the ignition key is turned to the first click.

Also found out I had to connect the red plug to a red plug I found in the relay box for the radiator fans. Seem like it provided power to the relays to trigger the fans. So indeed it was needed on this one too.

That sounds right. UK GTIs don't normally have that relay box, but other countries are perhaps different...
