Be4 Gearbox Ratios To Suit 1.4 Tu

Recommended Posts

Loose Hand Luke

Hi all.

I've been searching through the various threads on be4 boxes.

Basically I'm wanting to fit a be4 box with ratios to suit the tu3 engine I'm running in my 309 (205 xs spec)

Does anyone know what gearbox code or donor car I need to find?

I'm guessing the tu5 8v Picasso would be a starting point but wasn't sure if the 16v box would suit a revy tu3 better? Just don't want to kill the feel of the car.

I'm also sure I've got a good idea of what else I need to actually fit it:

Be4 TU rhd lower mount.

309 be driveshafts.

Be3 gear linkages.

Be1 pull clutch cable.

Any extra info would be great.

Cheers all.

What is the point of your car

A valid question. Should of said sorry.

I'm having an ongoing saga of faulty MA gearboxes. The car is running a tu3s engine and I'd love to keep it that way.

It's a daily driver and gets the occasional back road fun blast, but "fast road" reliability is about the best description of what I'm after, it won't be a track car.

And

I would go with 206 gti180 ratios longer 1st and closes up the 1 to 2nd gap as be boxs are slightly worse than the ma for that, then if you get the Picasso box it should have a 4.2 final drive and just keep that along with the casing and then the 206 ratios will give you some thing simerler to the ma xs box apart from first, that would give you all be4 too. As for the other bits yeah you are correct altho I run a standed 205 tu clutch cable with the cable clutch arm as there is 2 types of them on the be4 boxes just has a small dome head spacer made to fit the arm and cable, as for gear linkage I kept the organal pivot etc but made new rose joint links.

Ah ok. So as it stands there's no BE4 that's suitable off the shelf for the tu3, but at least you can pick ratios and do a rebuild by mixing and matching.

So far on the shopping list I've got these:

Be4 or be4r from TU engine picasso, berlingo or partner van

Manual clutch fork 2117.58

cable operated clutch fork 2117.58

pivot ball for above 2120.50

release bearing 2041.A7

cable bracket 2151.90

Lower mount 1807.H8

pivot ball will be there already if it has a fork out the front.

you can use be3 bits too, though the shafts need the matching 3-4th gear as the splines are different.
