1.9 Gti High Idle When Cold

Recommended Posts

My Goodwood had never run 100% from cold since the rebuild 12 months ago.

I have fitted a known good SAD over the weekend and some new Baker BM pipes for it too.

It still idles at 1800rpm unless I leave in for 20 mins or so and on restarting it idles at a steady 1k.

Any ideas please as it doing my head in!

Thanks in advance.

The SAD/hoses/air leaks are a common cause of tickover problems but I have found the TPS to be often at fault . If it is set incorrectly it can hold the throttle butterfly open so it does not return to its stop and if it fails internally ( as one of mine did )the tickover was high . Check its set correctly and then put a multimeter on the 3 pins as per the Haynes manual tests .
