1.9 Sump Bolt Length And Why Are There 4 Cap Head Ones?

Recommended Posts

Chris H

Can anyone tell me how long the M7 bolts are for a 1.9 xu engine as i'm swapping my std xu5 sump for a XU9 steel sump and alloy spacer/stiffener plate so my xu5 bolts are too short.

Also, why are there the 4 cap head bolts used as std? Is it something to do with access? Was planning on getting new bolts all the same type and not sure if there is a reason to go for cap or hex bolts.

Cheers

Chris

Cant tell you off memory for the lengths (50mm rings a bell). There's shorter ones for around the end bearing caps (blind holes) about 35mm??

The cap heads make sense if your fitting an ally sump. I reckon they just use the same fixing set up for the steel sump to save on production costs.

Edit:50 was 70 (there's 70mm M7's somewhere on the car)
