Highly unlikely to be the one under the dash inless it's been fiddled with before. The one in the engine bay is the usual culprit...best solution is to cut it out and wire in a new plug or remove the need for one by soldering.

Tried and checked brown plug all ok, any ideas?

Could it be the gauges?

Thanks

When you say you checked the brown plug what did you actually do?

to check the gauges / wiring - earth the wiring to the engine block - if the gauges read full you have a fault between there and the engine block (i.e. sensor fault or connection to sensor)

I initially had a fault with my car showing a drop of oil pressure at speeds in excess of 50mph, turns out it was wind blowing on the wiring spade connector and it wasn't making a good contact. a bit of a nip up on the spade with a pliers, and job done!

for both sensors to stop working I would imagine it is a wiring fault at the multiplug in the engine bay.

Checked each wire, connections and fixed one red wire which appeared broken

No dcc, not yet, I'm utter rubbish with electrics and un sure which block to earth, engine block or inside car.

Sorry for sounding dumb but pants with these things

Pull the wiring spade off the sensor end, or undo the nut on the oil temp sensor in the sump. Touch the end of the wire to something metal and clean on the engine, a bolt head for example.

Get a helper to watch the gauge on the dash ( ignition on)

If all the wiring is ok the gauge should read maximum when you touch the wiring to earth. If it DOES then it could be the sensor at fault. If it DOES NOT then it's a wiring fault between the sensor and dash.
