Recommended Posts

Hi

Ordered a clutch cable for my be1 and the new one from Pagid doesnt have a rubber bung for the bulkhead its got a small white plastic end。

Anyone used one and know if I just it as it is or should i use the old rubber bung?

Cheers

Rich

They normally come with the rubber bung if it's the later type BE1 cable (1988-1989 cars)

Earlier BE1 cables (1984-1988 ish) used a different fitting that doesn't have the rubber bung - you've not been supplied one of those by mistake have you? It's quite a different looking end though as it's a twist rather than the push fitting used on the later cable, so should be obvious enough just looking at it.

If it's the right fitting and just missing the rubber, it shouldn't be an issue to swap it over.

You need a different cable, there's two types of be1 cable, one bayonet fitting into the pedal bix, and a late rare tyoe with the round hole and rubber bit on the plastic fitting.

Not offhand, but I have posted the 4 different motaquip ones on here in the past, cotswold motaquip should be able to sort one for you.

Cheers.

I'll have a search.

Stupid CTI never works on parts sites...

Was just reading that.

However I'm confused.

I have the metal forked end that a pin passes through with a clip on the end.

So does that mean I have the weird crossover one?

No, both early and late BE1 cables have that pedal fitting - the difference is the fitting where it passes through the pedal box as I said above.

Whilst there is in theory four different 205 RHD BE clutch cables, in reality there's only three that you're ever likely to see or which most motorfactors will list - early BE1 (upto 1988), late BE1 (1988-1989) and BE3 (1990 onwards).

Cool.

I think i was confusing myself with the be3 ones as well...

I shall call carparts4less tomorrow and have a nice argument with them about their catalogue being wrong again then....

Cheers

Just spoke to my local factors and apparently the CTI has a 1570mm cable listed, so gonna try that.
