Loose Hand Luke

Just picked up a nice 309 Trio S.

Need to get the photo's off my camera but found the poor thing hidden at the back of a local garage.

Spec list:

1991 309 Trio S

5 door

1360cc TU engine with twin choke solex Z2 carb

53k miles

full service history

Driving it about is giving me a right buzz as I learnt to drive in one years ago and now finally own another :D

Pics to follow soon!

It was inside the garage. By garage, I mean a car sales/petol station. The chap had taken it as a part ex about 4 years ago and it sat in the back of his mot shed.

Have done some cleaning up on it now so will take a second set of "after a wash" pictures and get both posted up!

Struggling to find my camera usb lead :-(

Also popped to my local scrapyard and collected some 309 GTi bumpers and some other phase 1 dash bits for my 205. Not bad for £60!

Have given the rest of the car a clean up but the pics weren't very good.

Will try and take some more.

Thanks guys.

Yeah its very clean. I used to have the 1.9 diesel Trio (complete with the green seat piping and seatbelts :-p) Its been a great blast from the past driving one again.

Love it to bits!

Things I'm after at the mo are a phase 2 glove box cover (they seem to be a common issue as my last one fell off too!) and probably a nice set of 309/205 seats and 5 door door cards.

Its the rear of the car that has suffered the most, I think the garage owner used it to run crap about in for a while so the back/underside of the rear bench is torn and the rear door cards have some scuffs.

I need to fit the GTi rear bumper as the current one is damaged, but I'm torn between keeping it original or making it look a bit more sporty!

Opinions?

The spoiler seems to be original fit? Its a rubber one fore sure, I pulled it off today to have a bash at cleaning it up.

So far I'm thinking:

Gti bumpers

15" Speedlines (I've got some I've just refurbed)

Lower it slightly

Tidy the interior, maybe new seats.

Full service, timing and mixture tweak etc and then enjoy!

naah, 309 spoilers were hollow plastic on phase2's and did not have any supports mid way, they also would not have been fitted on top of the small lip spoiler that the Trio has !

the phase1 had the wraparound black rubber thing.

personally I'd keep it on the steels, as they're a lot lighter than a 15" alloy wheel.

Oh ok. Thanks mate, I wonder why it has that spoiler then!?

Will try and find a brand or marking on it under the paint.

I'll prob try the Speedlines seeing as I spent the time and effort on the refurb but I've decided against fitting them on my either of my 205's.

Its only a daily driver and I'm not planning on taking it racing :-p

Spoiler says its made by Foho in Austria !?! Its all rubber which is what made me think it was OE fitment.

Seems strange its been designed for a 309 and yet it was fitted to an otherwise standard Trio.

How wonderfully random :-p

Its not all that bad and it drives nicely. Just needs a few little tweaks and a good polish to clean off the spider poo!

Car has developed a running fault now :-(

It will start first time and run smoothly, then it'll just stop like you've turned the key off.

I think its ignition based. I set the timing bang on today, changed the rotor arm and dizzy cap as the electrodes inside were spark eroded and also changed the plugs. No change. Still runs great and then dies seemingly at random and won't restart until you've had it switched off for a short while. I'm wondering if it might be the coil or an earth. Will have another play 2moz. How annoying :-(

I would have thought it would be the ignition module causing your cutting out

Ah ok mate. I'll pop it off the dizzy and check its earthing. I've got some spare ones but they may be different brand. This dizzy is using the bigger bosch cap but the spare ignition modules I have are from the smaller dia dizzy's. Know if there's much of a difference?

well some progress made.

Running issues fully sorted with a new ignition module.

Have swapped the broken rear lenses and stopped the leak in the boot.

I've also removed the spoiler in order to strip the paint off and take it back to black.

Then I fitted my Gti bumpers and Speedlines that I'd refurbed previously. Its all looking rather nice at the moment.

Rear beam and brake pipes need a good look at, as does the interior. I've also got some nice new shocks and springs to fit.
