Rallye steelies or 1.6 GTi alloys out of the list.

Looks nice and reminds me of my sorely missed Graphite XS (with 1.6 alloys to give you an idea):

1.6 alloys look the dogs nuts on a graphite, really retro and not too heavy

1.6 alloys, anything bigger than 14's look wrong on base models i think.

My old XS with 1.6 alloys:

306 DTurbo Harriers. Cheap, easy to balance, look great, don't catch if lowered.

...and for comparison purposes, a pic of my red XS with 1.9 alloys. This is a photo of a photo, is this was my car when I was a 19 year old student.....a long time ago now! Such a pretty alloy, that I would still be tempted to fit them I think! They do suit the pepperpots though - looks good in Anthony's pic above.

As said above. I like the rallye steels(got a soft spot as there fitted on mine :) )

but what about 106 xsi 5 spokes, don't remember the proper name of them if there even is one. They look really good on non gti, or get the std ones banded a bit??

£120 to have my original xs wheels stripped, sprayed and laquered, and they look great, They even put my new tyres on for free.

I ran them on mine for a while - they're OK but I don't think they suit it as well as some of the other options

Been meaning to reply to this for ages, apologies for the crap photo but the 106 Steelies are the best! I was going to get them done in silver for stealthiness, but the 6j versions are just too wide, make sure you get S1 5.5j.

I picked up some 106 wheels as they where cheap, local and wouldn't rub, I wasn't sure to begin with but I really liked them.

I don't I'm afraid, they didn't stay on long. It was around 30-35mm I believe. The springs were supposed to be 30mm and Anthony rebuilt the beam to suit. For a fairly mild set up it went round a corner!
