Time for a comment.

In short, the price is what someone is prepared to pay, regardless of whether it is parts or a whole 205 GTI. I personally spent a long time trying to locate a reasonable gti in need of restoration as I love fixing old cars but it had to be original with provenance to back it up.

In the end I got one with a reasonable amount of mileage (170,000) but the only non original item was a magnet exhaust and a valeo light; even the key and locks are original backed up with the handbook with owner details etc. I may have paid more than its worth but I don't care and that goes for the parts as well as this is my fun car to enjoy, cherish and have great times in.

As the vehicles are getting rarer, the price and parts will increase but as I has said a few times, that is the responsibility of keeping an amazing drivers car on the road, which I would have no other way. Unfortunately, there will always be those who say it is worth less or I am not paying that but that is their choice.

No doubt I will use farmer for parts in the future but if we all band together, we can keep investing time and effort into nfp parts such as the lamp guard, which are amazing and tom's brackets etc.

I am proud to be part of this forum and all the experience of those within it. May it long continue......rant over

Nice to see some thing interesting like this on the forum as I have said on here a few times, lets see in 10 years time ho is still on here and a owner of a 205, I think there will be a huge drop and these people ho have brought up all nfp parts and parts left over from breaking 205's up will be long gone, now I can safely say I am still here and will be in ten years time.

I brought my first 205 gti when I was 16 and I am 29 in a few weeks time and own three 205's and one of them is be coming very well known in the Peugeot community, There are a few people ho have been lucky enough to take a look in my loft of my workshop and my storage sheds and see what I have got in peugeot spares around me and even have a deal on some rare stuff that I have had and got and these people are true peugeot 205 owners and we will stick together to keep the flame burning in 205 ownership.

Before people say I am not one of these people ho are sitting on stuff for my pension fund like a few people are doing on the forum these days, I do it to keep parts from being thrown away and looking after my great friends I have met on here and dealt with in the past and in a funny sort of way they know ho they are.

Keep up the good work gents and I will try and dust off the 205 and bring it up to pugfest this year as it has been to long.

You are right Dale that there is a bit of an underground network who support each other as I have had the odd "rare" bit from you in the past. But people are happy to let things go from their hoards if it is to a fellow established enthusiast, often on the proviso that if they need it back then they can ask. This may be seen as cliquey to some, but it is more about integration and involvement, gives and gets.

There was an instance of someone on here offered a load of parts free to a forum member to come an collect, who then just listed them on eBay. That defeats the community spirit in my opinion, but others may see this as opportunistic capitalism at its heights!

This gets my goat. I mentioned once that I had a new GTI16 badge. A while later I got a pm from a member saying he really needed as it would be the final part of his long term project. In true community spirit I let him have it cheap thinking I was helping him out. Under a month and it was on eBay!!

I'm not bitter, I just remember it from time to time, get angry, have a hot flush, and need to vent off!

Yes Dale I have bought 5 grand of new parts for a joke. I have owned a 205 since 2009 and will never sell up.

Today a member emailed asking for the metal plate and rubber that the heater matrix pipes run through.

I didn't have many as there is none to be got, but I let the pair go for 15 quid, incredibly cheap considering I bought both from Australia.

As stated earlier I got a a few NLA items that were reproduced items that were used to a template, by spending my money and time getting them with no financial gain to myself, so people like you can enjoy a NFP part if required.

This is all besides the point, how about £200 for your 205? Or if it's "rare" £400 ;)

This discussion come up often on the car forums I'm part of.

I always say the same I don't care what people value cars at it's an emotion for me if I see a car and like the look of it mechanically sound ect ect I will buy it regardless of cost. I think the reason most people are devaluing 205's is they now seem to be at that edge where most of them require substantial input to get working sweet and last another 20 odd years.

What really grinds my gears is the way sellers state a part is "rare" and pump up the price when you go elsewhere and it its much cheaper as I'm currently finding out.

Whilst not 205 related, but similar to this as it involved an Escort RS Turbo, there was a guy on an RS forum that was letting his leftover spares go after he broke his car, all at reasonable prices as he wanted them to go to another RS enthusiast.

Had I been an utter (enter expletive here) I could have bought all the bits for peanuts & then flogged them on eBay for 10 times what I paid, but as I'm not, instead I PM'd the guy to reserve the bits for myself, knowing that instead i was reserving them for another guy on the forum that I knew needed the bits for his own car to get it back on the road :)

The sad thing was though, within 10 minutes of the guy listing the thread 8 other forum users had already posted up wanting to buy the bits / making offers - and I know at least 6 of them would have just put them on eBay

Lets meet back on this thread in 10 years time. Hopefully should have taught myself to paint by then.

I don't throw anything away related to the 205, even if it's knackered it's piled up in my shed, you only make that mistake once!

I keep all the bits not for the value and if I ever sold my project I'd let all the parts go for peanuts too.

In real terms my 205 has its value bolted to it, eg bodies, dta s60 etc... If we are being honest mine is prob. Only worth £3000 if I tried to sell whole, but to me it is worth closer to 10k, with time amd effort that has been ploughed into it, prob. Raising that way above 20k.

I wont be selling it in a hurry, but if I wanted to get anywhere near my money back, I would be doing a Spiky and breaking it, novody is going to want to part with 10k for a 205. It just isnt that sort of car, and is unlikely to be in 10 years time. Fuel prices will rise, the market will dwindle for these little death traps and people will see the sense in finding high mpg cars.

Either way, my 205 is where it is because it is how I wanted to do it. It isnt going to win any shows, or any races, but ita going to put the grin on my face on any road :)

Btw I sold a very clean, low mile example with aircon and pas recently, which came to less than a quarter of what my long term car is 'worth'. Values on these cars are completely arse backwards atm.

You know what. When I put the 405 mi16 up for sale, I know I'll make a loss, BUT at least I'll know that the new owner will have to spend very little to get her minty mcmint.

I've never restored a car and made profit. I restore a car to save it

I cant comment for others, but there is no way my restoration costs will ever be covered, not even close.

I'm doing it for some experience, as a hobby and to learn some new skills.

In justification I decided to not buy a new car that will depreciate twice my build cost over the next three years, do the 205 up, learn some new skills, make some new friends and end up in three years time with a fully restored 205, not a bad deal all in all. :)

Interesting debate , I am sure similar things were said in the Ford RS community 15/20 years ago and look at the value of Mexicos and RS2000's now .Poor cars were scrapped or stripped for parts and you could pick up a project cheaply , now a ratty 2 door base model Escort is worth a grand or more .

We are lucky that we can pick up the best hot hatch of its time for £2000 , insure it for under £200 and be busy all summer with shows , events and trackdays .The scruffy cars will not survive because of sheer economics and the scarcity of body panels , external trim etc .The good ones will appreciate in value .

Without doubt the Peugeot community is as helpful and knowledgeable as any and is an invaluable source of information which has kept many cars on the road .

Projectuno that car looks stunning inside and out, apart from the back of course. Depressing to know it was hit while parked. Hope insurance sorted you out in the end.
