Standard Gti Backbox - Odd Tailpipe?!

Recommended Posts

nveeate

My 205 1.9 GTI has a standard (replacement) exhaust. The tailpipe sticks out and looks a bit rubbish as a consequence. Looking at pictures of other cars with standard exhausts, mine looks different. Any idea why?

Do you think it would be improved by taking a grinder to it and slicing it off approx in line with the valence?

Tom Fenton

The earlier cars exhaust system in 3 sections with sleeved joints tailpipes did look like that originally. When the systems changed to the 2 section system with olive joints the tailpipe style also changed.

Ah, cheers Tom. I didnt remember my old 205s being like this, but they were mainly later models, and the earlier one had probably been changed. I'll have a proper look and see if there's a sensible place to shorten it without it looking butchered! Would be interested to know if anyone else has done this.
