For some reason i woke up with this in my head

Ive overlaid the standard subframe into the normal position and fitted the steering rack to it. And its almost in the same position as mine, with id have though of this first. But it looks as though it should still work

I cant use the proper positioning without having to make custom rear mounts.  Which id rather not do. If this build works out well i was thinking of manufacturing these as bolt in kits

My steering rack is turned by a cylinder with flats, not a splined drive

Pas is splined only but looking at ebay items for sale  that is a splined non pas joint so non pas must be either splined or square   This is a great if difficult project good to see you are still at it after so long.

Older non pas racks are also splined, and newer pas racks from 306/ZX/Xsara are flat.

Now that I think about it you probably looked at other 205 B16/B18 conversions but did you also take a look at the 309?

There is more room on the front and the strut towers are a bit further apart but it has the exact same subframe and engine mounts so the chassis rails can't be too far from the 205.

Ahh i wasnt aware of that, i should have checked before i bought that column from ebay. Looking at the splined version, tho it seems to be a shorter shaft length which i think would be better for my particular case. While looking i noticed that you can buy replacement rack and pinion parts. So i assume that these come apart relatively easily, which means i could make my own pretty easily with the necessary spec if needs be. Ill investigate this some more

I dont think ive seen that  red one before, unfortunately im not on social media so can only see a few photos before it kicks me out. Looks like they have used the honda mount welded to the frame. I see a lot of similarities to that install and  my CAD which is also good, makes me think im on the right track at least.

The white one i think i may have seen on ebay, i asked the guy for info and pics but never got a response unfortunately. If it is, indeed the same one

Had a job on the mill for my managers retirement.  I needed to get this done so haven't been on this for a few weeks.

Anyway, excuses aside. Ive just re-designed the gearbox side frame mount for manufacture. Ive separated the parts you can see in the image into individual pieces. I would rather make it out of billet, but at this point when its not confirmed itll work, id rather not commit the material yet.

So this will be 3 separate milled pieces then welded together. There are elements on each pieces that position it, in the only place it can go. Ensuring alignment.

Ill start the machining of this soon, still need to design the fixtures etc first. Fixtures are more work etc for a single use, but if other people want these. They'll pay dividends later. So i dont mind knocking them up now.
