Gearbox Part 2

so im changing the box to a second hand one anyone tell me the part numbers for drive shaft seals and give advice on anything else to change at the same time in the box not the clutch as that's been done ie clutch fork.

They are the same as any BE box, 6 speeds the lot! Tend to get genuine one of ebay for pennies.

Clutch fork bushes are a good idea, check the clutch release bearing guide/input seal shaft holder.

Driveshaft seals are all the same on BE and MA.

I have a Gti6 box with a quaife lsd can I swap the diff housing complete with the quaife lsd and fit it onto a 205 grd box?

You can swap the Quaife from one to t'other, but you'll need to swap the crownwheel over from the GTi-6 one to the GRD one.

Is this a complicated job to do ? Or would I need to take it to a gearbox specialist to get it done? Im using the grd box for the longer gearing bearing that in mind would I still need to swap the crown wheel over ?

It's straight forward enough if you're competent with a spanner. Call it 3 spanners out of 5 if it were Haynes.

 

Only tools you'll need is a typical socket set, a torque wrench, thread lock, sealant, and a suitable bar and socket for the hub nuts.

 

Well worth buying a new set of crown wheel bolts in advance, as certainly on the OE diff, they're notorious for stripping on removal

 

Can be done with the engine in situ normally, although I'm not sure whether there is enough clearance to do so with a T16 as you have to swing the engine forward a little to gain enough clearance to remove the diff cover and diff. Dropping the subframe is another option if you don't want to remove the gearbox from the car.

 

Crown wheel needs swapping over regardless, as that matches the pinion inside the gearbox, the two parts together forming the final drive.

Engine is out of the car and the gearboxs are also so from the way you describe the job it should be a straight forward task thank you for the advice.

Both gearboxes and the engine are currently out of the car so it should be a easy task to do.Thank you for the advice so I take it I get the new bolts for the gti6 crownwheel ? Edited by B11 BOB

a pug or citroen dealer, they are pretty reasonably priced to be honest, including the oil too!

As per Mei above - it's just the driveshaft oil seals that are silly money from the dealer and much cheaper on eBay etc.

indeed, forgot to mention that, you can pick up a pair of febi biltein seals from most motorfactors for well under a tenner, where pug want aboutthat each, plus vat.

so here's your update my local pug dealers are sh#@ they cant get the parts or carry them in stock so anyone no of a HELPFUL dealer that would post ?????? items release bearing guide/input seal shaft holder and clutch fork rubbers

I would try another local dealer tbh, they're just very unhelpful and lying to you, I do have some bits coming to my local dealer I could add to and post to you but you wouldn't get them till early next week.

here's the numbers and prices off servicebox, plus vat, do bear in mind that these are only guide prices, some will charge you more or less.

 

 

2105 35 - Guide bush, £14.20

 

yellow bushes

 

2175 14 - £2.19

2175 22 - £1.85

 

white bushes

 

2175 20 - £2.26

2175 21 - £1.68

 

also listed is a protective seal to go on the shaft which is 2175 56 - £1.16 (need two of)

 

 

 

Let me know and if I see before 3 I should have them by Friday as long as the warehouse in the UK have them.

ah i ring them back with the numbers here and guess what they can get them all for Friday last one comes in a pack of 10 im unsure of the color at the moment so i ordered everything thanks welshpug

you need to ascertain the colour as the fork offset is different, one will be no use to you and will kill off the release bearing.

 

I'll have a few of those seals off you if they are in a pack of 10 and they make you buy ll of them.

I'd bite the bullet and buy a new Arm shaft as well, it makes a huge difference with the clutch operation
