Running Different Driveshafts - 309/205

Recommended Posts

Ams

Hello, I have 309 wishbones, 1.9 hubs, GTI6 engine on a slight tilt with a GTI6 gearbox that's about to be replaced with a Xsara VTS gearbox. Both driveshafts on the car are currently 205 1.9 GTI items with the LH passenger side shaft having a modified inner cup to fit the GTI6 box as it has the 306 diff. The replacement Xsara VTS box has the 205 diff so I was wondering if it was ok to replace the current LH 205 1.9 GTI passenger shaft (seeing as it's the side most find troublesome) with a LH 309 GTI driveshaft but leave the RH drivers side 205 1.9 shaft as is since historically it does not tend to give any issues? I've searched around and I can't find an answer to this specific query. Appreciate it if anyone can advise, cheers.

PS - I'm going for AMK from a local factor that offered 309 1.9 GTI shafts for £10 less than 205 1.9 GTI items. Presumably I should double check the compressed length is 610mm?

309 wishbones, 205 diff, 309 driveshafts will be fine (and what should be used tbh). however, until the engine asap, and you wont have any issue with tearing shafts apart :)

I plan to untilt at a later date for sure. But running two differing driveshafts, a 309 on passenger side (the "problem" side) and a 205 on drivers side, should not cause any wierd issues?
