Just after advice really to help me fix the misfire on my Civic type R.

It developed a misfire on Cyl 1 and was diagnosed by swapping the injector to Cyl 2 and it followed, but Cyl 1 still came up with a misfire from the working injector from Cyl 2.

Also I noticed afterwards the suspected Injector had shorted and melted a blister on the side, It's also reading a short circuit on that injector with a multimeter.

I replaced the 4 injectors yesterday with known good ones ( the codes on them are different to mine, not sure what they are for?) but I was told it shouldn't matter and I can only take his word for that.

The misfire still remains and the fault codes are the same P0300( random misfire) P0301 P0302 (misfire Cyl 1 and 2) and P1298 (High load current detected)

My guess the blown injector has caused something else to go, but what?

And as I tried the faulty injector in cylinder 2 its damaged the same circuit as for Cyl 1.

Am I looking at a new ECM?

I have some test to do by following the service manual but I need to find the 24 pin ECM connector, not sure where that is?

Still no joy with this, (don't know if anyone interested or not? my last post on this if I don't get a reply.)

I decided to take it to a garge on Wednesday as I'm strugeling to find time to sort it.

They have just phoned up saying I owe them £305 now and they still don't know what's wrong with it!

Frigging hate garages and the we'll change that to see if it fixes it at the cost of the customer approch.

I'm off to kick off tonight when I go collect it, see if they will waiver the diagnostic cost of £45

Not sure what to try next, I'm thinking ECU might be at fault, but they are saying the leakdown test results said the headgasket must have gone.

I'm thinking they're clutching at straws to justify the diagnostic as the compression test I did was showing 190-180 Psi across the cylinders.

And why would A blown HG cause an injector to fail?

Unfotunatly the ECU has a bulit in imobiliser and is coded to the keys and ingnition so thats not going to be an easy swap.

I could take it to the dealer but I'm getting to a point where I've been offered £1200 scrap and off set to what I'll end up spending on it at the dealers, it might be a good option.

What year is it?

Post ok K20a.org

I have some recon injectors here that are 100% working you can try if you want.

2003

I did some investigating of my own last night, I lifted out the injector rail and had my neighbour turn the ignition over for a few seconds to actually see if the injectors were firing, 1 and 2 aren't but 3 and 4 are.

I swapped injector on cyl 1 with injector on cyl 3 to eleiminate the chance of the secondhand injectors been faulty and 1 and 2 still doesn't squirt fuel as expected.

So the diagnostic test I've paid for who said "the injectors are all firing" was a waste of money. I'm going to check to see if the plugs, oil and filter have acually been changed, which I never asked them to do anyway. And I think I might be contacting Trading standards about these cowboys. They wouldn't give me the keys till I paid.

The p1298 fault code has gone though with the new ELD relay, but I was doubful it was the cause of the misfire.

Ive checked the continuity of the wiring between the injectors and ecu and its all good, so it leads me to one conclusion ECU (or ECM what Honda call it)

Anyone know a good ECU repair specialist that can test it, or will I be better off buying a full set of locks and ecu for £300 off ebay?

Only other thing it could be is a fuse or relay that controls the pulse outside of the ecu, but it looks like the feed goes straight to the injector from the ECU.

Hi Alex

It does sound a lot like your original injector has shorted out and blown the driver in the ecu, transferring the faulty injector into the no2 cylinder then caused the second driver to fail. Pretty rare fault TBH as the ecu would usually have short circuit protection.....

The injector pug should have 12v on one wire when the engine is running and the other wire gets switched to earth by the ecu, best way to test is confirm the 12v feed with a voltmeter then plug a noid light into the multi plug and see if it flashes, my guess is that it won't so with the other tests you have pretty well proven ecu.

Some early Jap stuff used to run the injector signals through a resistor pack so it would be worth confirming that there isn't one on your car (it would be on the wiring diagram) but I'd be surprised if there was.

If you post up a photo of the ecu label I'll ask around to see if there's anyone who can repair the unit but it may not be an option and would probably cost about the same as the ebay kit anyway.

Thanks for the input.

The code on the ECU is:

37820-PRA-E11

026691-3305

I'm phoning these on monday http://www.ecutesting.com/ as they are't too far from me.

Bugger, they can't even test it.

They're sending me it back FOC though.

Anyone know of a good ECU testing place?

that's odd given they offer a rebuild service.

ATP and ECU Techno are both decent setups but again I doubt they will cover that model.

Could be an option to code swap from your ecu to a second hand one but again likely to be as costly as the ebay kit.

Try ringing BBA Reman

I'm with Fento, I use BBA a lot - good bunch of dudes

These guys?.

I'm waiting for a reply from ECU Doctor, they have one listed as been tested on their system and are going to confirm with an engineerer if they can do it.

I would have thought there will be someone who can fix these, they're common as muck EP3's around me.

Thanks for the help everyone.

ECU doctor phoned back saying they can test them

The ECU landed on my desk this morning at work so I'm going to post it off to them today.

I'll phone again to see if they can confirm a lead time on it.

The website doesn't look very professional, but I guess you can't judge a company from the website.

I'll keep you all posted.

Was thinking, I should contact the trading standards about the local garage that ripped me off?

I was told I needed a new headgasket as it was the cause of the misfire and that my injectors were all working and the ECU was fine.

If I hadn't have done a few test myself before I let them loose on it I would have ended up paying over a grand at this cowboy outfit and still had to have a my ECU repaired.

Did you pay by credit card, if so put the payment into dispute.

If you paid by cash - Small claims court.
