Alan_M 66 1 Cars Posted May 13, 2013 My next challenge, a Saxo with rotten inner rear arches. Seems fairly straight forward, I think there is 3 layers here and just a matter of building up layer by layer. But, a silly question, does anybody think I'm going to need to drop the fuel tank (for safety reasons)? I've grinded/cut/welded before in the proximity of a tank filler but not for the length this job is going to take. Incidentally, why do Saxos go here? Appears to be a common problem on them. stef205 91 1 Cars Posted May 13, 2013 You are not alone! ive recently done this to my 106 gti both sides were gone on mine. I replaced both skins as its double skinned.
welshpug 1,626 Posted May 13, 2013 I would drop the tank, its not a big job, 2 nuts and a few clips.
AlexRS2782 136 1 Cars Posted May 13, 2013 Looks somewhat like the rear of my Saxo track car as well based on those pics. If it wasn't for already plating the sunroof i'd have been tempted just to reshell everything into another Saxo - although chances are that car would be just as bad on the rear
bigalthenutter 8 2 Cars Posted May 15, 2013 build quality is pap on saxo and 106 the seams have little or no sealant and the gap between skins is just big enough to allow water to enter but small enough to hold moisture
Alan_M 66 1 Cars Posted May 16, 2013 build quality is pap on saxo and 106 the seams have little or no sealant and the gap between skins is just big enough to allow water to enter but small enough to hold moisture It's appalling. I had to weld up a hole the size of my fist on the drivers chassis leg, underneath the floor for it to pass last years MOT. It got an advisory for the rust on the arches at the same time. Friendly MOTer said the the same about Saxo's/106's, they all go there apparently. My 205 is a '90 plate and has nothing like that on it (although the lower corner of rear quarter is bubbling). Not sure if I can be arsed to repair this anyway. Drop the tank and weld both sides....nah. Think I'd be more enthusiastic if I could get indoors, but the 205 is taking that space.
