cam timing? pin it and check everything lines up.

fuel pressure under load or a blocked fuel filter might also starve it.

what do the plugs look like colour wise?

Plugs are black like its getting to much fuel, I haven't checked fuel filter is do they block up then? Timings all locks up nicely

I've tries a different fuel reg makes no difference at all :(

Did it run fine before you did something to it?

Mine had similar problems when I fitted a 1.9vac advance unit to a 1.6dizzy. Ran perfectly at idle and revved fine, however had no guts and wouldnt accelerate at all.

Did you manage to get this sorted??

I've got a 309 gti with exactly the same problem, its sat for 5 years, new fuel pump and plugs and it fired up, but as soon as you pull away it tries to konk out!!

based on what has just been said il try a new fuel filter tomorrow..

Test the TPS.

I had one go on a 1.6 before and it was using tons of fuel and felt flat. It turns out it was reading wide open throttle constantly.
