Recommended Posts

aronw2004

Hi everyone, Just wondering if any one knows how to remove the door pins. Iv tried everything they seem to be seized in there. Iv soaked them in oil and wd40 but its made no different. Really need to get these out now.

Any help appreciated.

I have new hinges coming from abroad so if they dont come out i could sell them to you.

Back to you're problem.

What i did was get a punch to move them to get them started, then place the new pin on top and hammered them down removing the old pin with new pin popping into it's place.

Heat could be your friend also if needed.

Dd you remove you're door as well for better clearence ?

no need for heat, just need a decent punch, removing the door as mentioned will make it far easier.

Even with heat we couldn't remove a door pin on my friend's phase one hence the new hinges i bought.

Also i bent a punch trying to remove mine, the best way for me was using the new pin to get old one out.

Funnily enough the new hinges come with door pins in them so i was told by the dealer.

yup, they come complete so all you need to do is weld them on.

Good news.

Iv got them off now, Verry simple once i took the door off. I was just thinkin, the pins were worn but could the hindge also be worn, the weld on side i mean.

Dose any one know the size of the hole.

I think mine must be between 7mm and 7.5mm. A 7mm drill bitis loose there but wont get a 7.5mm in there.

7mm indeed, the welded part can wear.

Especially if the pins have deteriorated that bad.

You can drill the holes to 8 mm and use 8 mm pins to make the hinges tight again.

I've done it to my 205.

Once tried to do the same to my ex-306 and only managed to burn two drill bits. I guess the hinges are hardened in 306.

Thanks everyone, sorted the door out now. The 7mm pins were verry loose in the hindge so i drilled them out to 8mm. No play at all in them now.

One job done off the list.

Slightly off topic, has anyone done a similar drilling trick to hinges that used the stepped bolt rather than the pin?

thought id explain how i did this,

  • remove door panel
  • unclip all the wires inside the door
  • pull out the loom from the door (I did not take it all out, only enough so I could move the door away)
  • Leave the window up (more room to undo the hinge bolts)
  • undo the bottom hinge first
  • prop the door up or have someone to hold it
  • remove the top bolts
  • now you have more room to hit the old pins out.
  • I used two 8mm drill at this stage. I had to cut them down as I could not get my drill in there.
  • Put the new 8mm roll pins in the hinge and then work your way back.
  • take time to get the door aligned properly before finally tightening the hinges back.

don't forget to oil the hinges, lol

I've just done the lower one used a cross screw dropped into the pin and old cross head screw driver, protecting the door with towel and giving it a good hit with a hamer, once the old pin goes below the hinge I removed the screw used the new pin withe the screw in the top to stabilise the new pin and used it to drive the old pin out. Only problem is now found the top pin is loose also. Anyone recommend source for pins £5 plus post was a bit steep for the first pin.

yeah, go direct to a dealer not a third party on ebay ;)

if they are still loose, either replace the hinge or drill to a larger size and suitable pin.

same question from me,

where you get them from?

my drivers door needs sorted and i know the hinge is worn, so new pins wont fix it
