Washed Engine :(

Recommended Posts

GWtaylor

Dad washed engine the other day and I started to drive it and noticed it sounded like it wasnt running right with lack of power.

about 1 mile down road and it just cut out still had dash lights but wouldnt fire up

I've put a new dizzy cap and rotor arm on cleaned and dried electrics

it did have a spark from coil but no spark when going into dizzy

is there any fuses or relays I should be checking or and block connectors i could of missed which may need drying

this happenend saturday so it's had a few days to dry out now

any suggestions apart from to keep the father away from the car with a hose

oh it's L reg 1.9 cat

Look for a black box near your battery that has several fuses in it as well as the main battery connections to your altenator and starter. This may be soaked..

good luck

Check inside the spark plug chambers, I once jetwashed mine and it lost a s*itload of power. Later I discovered the chambers where the spark plugs are had water in them earthing out the spark

Make sure the carbon bit hasn't dropped out of the dizzy cap.

check all electrical connections for water!!! especially the ignition module and crank angle sensor. also take ht leads off the plugs and blow out all water that will have collected in there. been though this a few times..... the troubles with being fanatical about a clean engine bay

if all else fails, i find a liberal coating of WD40 over all the electrical connectors sometimes helps. drives out the moisture

Common for the spark plug holes to fill up with water, whip the plugs out and spin it over, wd40 as mentioned, thats what its for.

Have you looked at the plug thats on the dizzy? It has a yellow plug on a thickish black lead that will stop the spark if not properly connected.
