[Body_Work] Mi16 Progress Thread

Recommended Posts

Craig.Mi16

so, here goes my progress thread.

i used to own a 1.6 gti when i was 18, bought it for 500 quid then it started juddering and misfiring! i took it a few differnet places and none could identify the problem...gutted, so i sold it for £350. ever since ive wanted another 205 so i bit the bullet and finally got another last year.

i have owned my mi16 since aril 2012, bought for £1300 of gumtree and with no intensions of doing much to it at all (removing the hideous stickers)...but nearly a year on, a full respray later and some bits and bobs i have actually made some progress.

here it is when i first got it.

after removing the stickers, which must of been on there for the last 10 years i was left with half a paint job, so i began sanding the car and preping for a new paint.

New Paint job :)

Sprayed the plastic trim and came up a treat, was more than happy with the results.

post-21651-0-29042700-1363048110_thumb.jpg

Bit of masking tape and some bonder did the trick, should have got some more clips really but i wasn'nt planning on removing it.

Red trim clipped back in place after having a new coat of red paint, looked awsome.

post-21651-0-85285800-1363048680_thumb.jpg

After not seeing many 205's with tinted headlight and repeaters i thought id give it a try, worst case scenario i buy new ones or strip the tint off, luckly i think it paid off as i quite like it.

post-21651-0-21113900-1363048817_thumb.jpgpost-21651-0-93507000-1363048873_thumb.jpg

Definatly not a fan of the silver rim on the alloys, i know some people are but its not my thing so i went for anthracite all over, i was quite happy with the results to say it was all from halfords rattle cans.

cut out the fog holes ready for break vents a bit of caliper painting all round and hammerite all the arches, suprisingly not much rust at all...bonus!

Nice shot of the car all clean in order..plus new square number plate and tow strap (still not sure)

post-21651-0-77305900-1363050198_thumb.jpg

Found these comp th's on retro rides ( with a dish!!) at a bargain price so i snapped them up from a guy called bruce..awsome guy, ive done alot of searching and cant seem to find any the same anywere, apparently they were on a ford rally car.

the centre bore was ford fittment so i had them bored out for a tenner a corner.

post-21651-0-04828400-1363050053_thumb.jpg

Then bought some maxxis maz 1's 195/45/15 to go on the 8j comps...yep slight stretch but more for the practicality of not having rubbing on the arches, took a few nice pics. over all im pretty pleased so far.

Now my future plans for the body are wide arches, auto bonnet when it finally arrives.

As for the engine..hopefully gti6 inlet manifold, aftermarket ecu, cams...possibly throttle bodies...who knows.

hopefully if i can save my cash ill be updating soon.

8.8 Kilos and are not mag, they would be in several pieces by now given the battering they get on a MK2 Escort that requires 8" wide rims

Mag would be a fair bit lighter, nearer 6-7 kilos for a wheel that size

looks cool, light tints are just a tad too dark for my liking but thats just me.

anyone ever tried masking a 205 light? they come apart easy enough lol.

Because they dont clear 283mm brakes, I didnt have the cash to sort the inserts studs and nuts they require to be used safely, and I needed ther cash too so I sold them on.

Nor do they look good on a standard arched 205 IMO... :P

They were to go on my ZX actually where they would have just about fitted in the arch, but brake clearance as I said was an issue, 180 ish bhp and 1100 kg does need and can use the larger brakes, a 205 doesnt though.

cheers mate, and i know the tint spray dried darker than i was expecting and it a bit of a bugger to get of the inside with all the ridges on the glass.

the glass on my light was stuck on pretty well so i banged them in the oven on low heat and the popped straight of haha worked a treat.
