Importance Of Sump Spacer On 1.9 Dkz Engine

Recommended Posts

omri617

Hi there

I know that one of the differences between 1.6/1.9 is the spacer for the sump.

I admit that i run 1.9 DKZ and not using a spacer - for 3 years!

What is risks and should i bother fitting?

Its more a block stiffener than just a spacer, the sump is shorter on the 1.9 compared to the 1.6 by the amount of the plate but I ran my car without a stiffener plate for a while without issue.

Miles doesn't have one on his CTI iirc & some other models odf the XU9 never had them from the factory so it shouldn't be an problem imo.

Your car could have left the factory without the stiffener plate, not all versions of the XU9 had them but looking on service box it should have one fitted to an XU9JAZ engine but you could have the sum from a 405 XU9 engine which doesn't usually have the stiffener.

Measuring the depth of the sump at the back where the oil temp sensor is could give some indication if you have a 1.6 sump but I don't know what this measurement should be on an XU9 without the stiffener or if they used the same sump as the 1.6 GTI.

If you had a 1.9 sump it would have a huge dent in it by now

The DKZ with A/C definitely had a finned sump + spacer, as did the D6B. Lesser hp models with A/C had a deeper, non-finned alloy sump and no spacer.

Well I can say mine with the Full power Cat (DKZ) engine all original has the non finned sump so it does vary from country to country, It had AC as std from new
