Gti6 Oil Pump Chain

A friend of mine has bought a gti6 donor car, today he took the engine out and started checking over it, he's took the sump off and tells me the oil pump chain looks a bit loose.

 

I know there not supposed to be really tight but he says there is a good 20mm or so movement in it, is this normal? how much movement in and out of the chain should there be?

I think there should be a spacer between the pump and the block to take the slack up

There should be a deflection of about 5-10mm not 20mm

Thanks for the replys, will need to look into if there is a missing spacer as this engine didnt have one
