Will I Get Away With Standard Valve Springs?

Recommended Posts

richystran

Just bought a Catcam 4900342 and was wondering if i could get away with standard valve springs, as i don't really want to invest in double ones. The cam lift is 12mm, is this acceptable with standard?

I have that cam in one of my engines, with DV Springs as that's what's recommended.

clearance [cl] 0.15mm 0.15mm

duration [0.1mm+cl] 287° 287°

duration [1.0mm+cl] 254° 254°

valve lift [cl=0] 12.00mm 12.00mm

cam lift - -

peak angle 106° 106°

timing [1.0mm+cl] 21/53° 53/21°

lift at TDC [cl=0] 3.95mm 3.95mm

You'll want 11:1 at least too.

Thanks for the replies, yes its looking like it would need them then! From the info above would this cam be much an advantage over a piper 285 cam, as i have one of them too and it doesnt need DV's.

And where is the cheapest for a set of springs as i cant seem to find any for less than £200. Help appreciated!
