Intercooler For 8Vt

Recommended Posts

NFS

Hi guys I need to find and intercooler that can be used on my 205 8vt. It has the twin fan setup and I cannot see anywhere to mount an intercooler. I do not want to cut the bumper or even have it visible. Has anyone for any suggestions on where to located one and what to get? Cheers

Just an idea :). Have you thought about fitting it under the coolant radiator?

That's where people mount chargecooler rads with T16 conversions.

A Cosworth intercooler should fit fine in this location.

Thanks and that intercooler above is a ford escort cosworth or sierra? Cheers

The other way is to drop the rad and have it sitting on the top of the rad. Tom Fenton does some nice brackets for rad dropping

No, that's a chargecooler water radiator.

This is a Cosworth intercooler:

IIRC, they come in different thicknesses, depending on exact car model.

P.S. Henry's solution would be neat(er).

And have people been able to fit a cossie cooler behind the bumper? Last think I want is to have an intercooler hanging out. Has anyone got any links to these neat setups cheers

The cosworth coolers made for the job, fits like a glove under the slam panel if you lower the rad down, and cant notice its there from the outside to keep the original look.

That looks like a tidy conversion there. Is that an xu10j2te engine with a 205 inlet? If so - what throttle body is on it? Just curious!

With the standard turbo inlet, the cossie cooler does not fit as easily in that location as there is not much room to get the pipes back to the inlet. At least thats what I found!

Cheers

Thats a good point mike, no its an xu9, along the same spec as tom fentons just an 1.9 instead, stand throttle body.

Is mounting the cooler low down not a long routing of boost pipes?

I had to fit a fan to the rear of the rad instead of the front.

Painted the intercooler black.

Pretty stealthy-

So by the looks of it you need to remove the duel fan setup for either a single fan or slimline one and put it on the other side. then i will be able to run a decent sided intercooler. cheers for the help guys

Don't forget to work out how big you need, no point running an artic intercooler if an R5 gtt unit or something like that will suffice.

I would think a BBM ally shortened rad with a cossie or similar intercooler placed above would fit behind the std cowing.

Audi TT uses a smallish square intercooler which may work.

Yes I've been looking at the Audi coolers they look like they might do the job. At the moment the car isn't using an intercooler so anything would be better than it is now and I'm not wanting any more power than standard as its all about the looks an feel with this car. Thanks for the help

Fiat Punto GT and Renault 5 GTT have intercoolers with two pipes that exit at 90 degrees at the top. This allows you to drop the standard rad and run pipework over the top of it.

I fount that an R5 GTT intercooler didn't like a lot of boost pressure and blew the top off it, so switched to a Punto one as in my pics
