Gti6 Ecu Un-Lock

When I bought my gti6 engine, the add it said that the ecu was unlocked by the battery-off method. What dose this actually mean? Is this unlocked or is someone pulling my leg

it means you should be fine to use it without paying to get it professionally unlocked, however if it was fitted into another 306 without first removing the non-matching transponder unit, it would lock and refuse to start.
