What Tool Is Used To Adjust The Cambelt Tensioners?

Recommended Posts

macaroni

Hey up!

I'm struggling to find anything I can stick in the square holes in my tensioners to adjust the cambelt.

What do people usually use for this?

My 3/8" and 1/4" sockets don't fit.

Cheers,

Antony

8mm square bar that comes in a timing belt tool kit, or sump plug key.

I ground a square end to the shaft of an old bolt.

Sump plug tool from draper is perfect. I have in the past used a chunky screw driver bit from an impact driver diagonally.

Thanks chaps. I found I had a sump plug tool, so used that on the front tensioner.

It won't fit between the rear tensioner and the inner wing, so I tightened that one as tight as it would go and am adjusting the tension using the front tensioner.

Please flame me if I'm doing that all wrong!

Ideally you need to keep equal tension over both tensioners, and try and keep the inlet and exhaust cam pulley holes evenly spaced over your locking pins.

If you wind all the tension on one side it will alter the cam timing.
