Gearbox For My Budget Gti6 Turbo?

Recommended Posts

peter

Ive built a gti6 turbo engine for my 205 for about £250 id like to start a project thread but cant?

Anyway... the gearbox (1.9gti) is far too short as it hits the limiter (6200) in fifth about 135 down the back straight at donnington park so what gearbox would be suitable so it will have a theoretical top speed of 150 ish ?

many thanks!

Go into 'project works starters' and start a topic in there, a mod will move it then.

As its a track car a 6 speed!

The 6 speed has the same top speed as the 1.9 ive allready tried it!

i'll try projects :)

6 speed is geared slightly higher, please do start a project thread, very interested in this as I'm sure others are.

it hits the limiter (6200)

Why is your rev limit so low on a 16v lump? Even 7200 limit which shouldn't be out of the way will get you something like another 15-20mph in top.

I know people using the 2.0 HDI gearbox on GTI6 turbos.

Well that is my next problem, raising the rev limit on the ecu. as its a 8v ecu.

Ill look into the ratios of the DTurbo and hdi box, but i thought they would be far too long

Naah, theyre doing 4 and a bit at 115.

Sounds like you need a different ecu or find a bosch mapper, only one i know of is chipwizards

4000rpm at 115 would be 172@ 6000 rpm

4500rpm at 115 would be 153,

think it might need 2 bar boost

Don't forget that as speed increases aerodynamics start to play a big part in power needed to drive the car through the atmosphere. Yes it might theoretically do those speeds at those revs, if it has the power to pull it through the air.

i thought the gti6 box in theory would do 156mph on the standard limiter. I once had my old standard gti6 off the clock at 140 and still pulling slowly

They will pull the limiter...

but take a while to get there!

I've got a hdi box spare, done 162k but no problems with it.

mph / 1k rpm is about 29mph on my 306 with correct 195/55/15 tyres.

FD is close to same as the 1.9 box, 19 x 70 so 3.684:1.

The hdi box will ought to see that speed at a lower rpm & carry on to over 150 if it'll overcome the aerodynamic resistance.

70mph is about 2300rpm.

This may be the next step, but for now I'm working on the mapping and increasing the rpm limit.

Would be nice to beat that fiesta that clocks 180 :s

Rallyeash; My mi16 with gti6 box did 153.9
