Are these engines worth spending the money on upgrading or would it be better spending the little extra on a Gti 6 turbo I'm after 350 bhp

Definitely worth using 16v for that kind of power, s16 or even a 16v xsi would work fine as well given youll be replacing half of it to start with.

Yep the XU10 turbo engine is pant's (Being polite here) Much better options out there, but you can see that power from a 8v

I would say it's the best standard engine regarding easy power for your money. What other engine can you spend £300 buying and get that sort of power by the turn of a knob. Depends what you're after though.
