Mp 3.1 Error Code 55

Recommended Posts

brian j

Hi,

I was trying to track down why my 205 can be a bit lazy to start since the Motronic 3.1 conversion.

I popped out this morning and read the fault codes.

There is only one, Code 55.

This is listed as ECU Fault, replace ECU.

Which is helpful. :(

Has nayone got any experience of this code and if there are any other causes?

Failing that, has anyone got a recommendation for an ECU repair place?

Thanks.

Ok, Another code listing says CO Pot is code 55. That would be better probably (It doesn't have one because it has been converted to Lambda)

Does anyone have a definative code list to give an idea which it might be?

Autodata said the same - co2 adjustment resistor

I wouldn't think you'd get that error if you are using a lambda as it goes down the same wires IIRC, so you might have a duff lambda?

The wires are Slightly different. It does list lambda fault codes separately too do I think it can't be the lambda.

What is odd is when it is cold it starts on the button every time. When warm it sometimes does and sometimes doesn't take 5-10 seconds of cranking before it fires.

When it doesn't start cleanly, it puts the engine management light on.

Did you remove the co pot wires or is the plug still in the loom, just not in use?

It could be a stored code from before when the co pot was still in use.

It only uses the same wires / ecu pin for the lambda that it also uses with the co pot, wire 24;

mix pot;

6; ecu earth pin

9; output 5v

24;input signal 0.5-1.2v

lambda;

5; ecu earth pin sheild wire earth

8; ecu earth pin red wire

24; input signal, engine running, 0.1-1.0v fluctuating.

The lambda also needs a 12v switched feed from coilpack or fuel pump relay.
