"short" Steering On A 405

Recommended Posts

rodionski

Hello,

Does anyone know of a "Short" ratio steering rack on a 405? I would like to have something around 2,5 turns lock to lock instead of the rather long 3.1 turns.

Would a steering rack from a 206RC fit?

Many thanks in advance!

Xsara VTS is like that, fit's on 205, so just maybe could fit on 405 too?

p.s. the term is "quick" instead of "short" :).

thanks Nikica! I will try locating a Xsara rack to see if it fits.

p.s. Are you sure the term is "quick ratio steering" rather than "short ratio steering"? Do you also say quick gearbox ratios or short ratios? :)

p.p.s I know both "quick shift" and "short shift" are used, too :)

When refering to steering the term to use is "Quick Rack"

Gearbox's are "Short Ratio"

and gearshifts can be both

Many thanks for that! Now, do you have any comments on the actual whereabouts of a "quick rack"? ;)

Fraid not. If a Xsara rack does fir then you coud try to find one from a Grp N car and get the associated electric powersteering system to fit.

Saxo pumps are a bit weedy though. A friend of mine was doing an AutoSolo in one and the pump died after about 30 seconds

So, what's the verdict, does Xsara rack fit?

Thanks!

If the Xsara rack fits the 205 straight off it will not fit the 405 subframe.

But the internals might possibly be switched over to the 405 rack-casing...

OK cool, will get one and try, have spare T16 rack so not much of a problem.

Thanks!

Sorry in dragging this old thread up, but has anyone found a 'quicker/shorter' rack for the Mi? Can anyone comment on whether a Xsara one will/won't fit?

Cheers

No luck on my side.

Even the guys manufacturing quick racks for Ukraine's track cars refused to make one for me.

Did anyone bother to try then?

Just using Xsara rack internals in the 405 Rack housing?

I actually think that should work.

Right, but then they don't deliver to Ukraine. And even if so, the Ukrainian customs are only waiting for that piece of junk to come - to tax it at 300-400 Euro.

It's a surreal country Ukraine is!

Beware, UK ones are RHD! They won't fit LHD cars.
