P1 Heater Matrix

Recommended Posts

Jer309GTi

I've just finished fitting a radio into the 405 and noticed that there are white deposits running down the side of the heater matrix area. The heater matrix must be just starting to leak (unless it's something to do with the aircon?) so thought I'd replace it as a 'prevention is better than cure' measure, as there is lots of electrical gubbins below it (and my nice new radio!).

Is it an easy job to do on the Phase 1s? I've done on on my old 309 and that was only a 10 minute job but the 405 looks a little more involved.

Also, GSF list a matrix for 405/406 87-98, and 405 (Behr Type) 87-98. How do you tell which is which?

Thanks :)

Take left side panel from center console away and look at the end of matrix. At least Valeo can be recognized that way, it's written to end of matrix.

Okee dokee, Haynes manual reckons other side of console needs to come out too, are they correct?

I never changed my matrix in the end Kris, it was on the car that got scrapped and didn't ever leak badly enough to warrant changing while it was on the road. So I can't help, sorry!

Yeah I did a P2 thread, but I'm sure there was some information around for the P1?! might have been a link to another site but I'm pretty certain there was something of note.
