Sunroof Glass Seal Replacement?

I noticed today that the rubber seal around my sunroof was bulging rather alot and causing the rubber seal to catch on the bodywork too much when using the tilt function.

When I pulled back the rubber seal a bit the cause of the buldge became apparent - rust! Why the hell have metal underneath this seal?? It's rusted so much that it's expanded.

 

Anyway, I guess my question is can this seal be replaced DIY? Or is it a bloody ££££ main dealer job?

Rust? I thought the 405 bodies were galvanized? I guess though it is a lot dryer here, than in your part of the world.

It's not the bodywork that's rusted, it's the metal that in the seal. Bloody stupid design.
