Instrument Panel Not Lighting Up.

Can anyone tell me which part/bulbs/lights are responsible for lighting up the instrument panel. After some surgery on mine to repair a few things it won't light up. It's difficult to stick to the speed limit when driving in the dark with a broken instrument panel.

Check the dash lights variable control on the column is plugged in first and swap it for a known working one to make sure, failing that its earthed to a block of green earths just above the steering column (inside) behind the indicator stalk.

You can also rule out the dimmer as being at fault by joining the two wires together, which will give full brightness.

 

It's common for people to forget to plug them back in though, which results in no instrument cluster or centre console background illumination.

Bridged the dimmer and works fine. Will replace.
