Puffing Smoke At High Rpm When Changing Gear

Recommended Posts

mikeygulley

Hi,

As the title says really, when reaching the higher end of the rev range in my 205 gti6 I'm getting a 'puff' of smoke when changing up. It doesn't drink any oil though.

I can't tell if the smoke is blue though, I was going to get someone to follow me to tell me.

When the car is not moving and revved there is no smoke nor when driving normally. I have only started to notice it after cleaning the car this morning (rear screen was very dirty after new road surface) and my bro telling me there was a bit when I went up the hill at pugfest (decided to tell me today).

I have tried a search but couldn't find anything.

Any suggestions/ideas would be appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Mike

Likely it's the stem seals starting to fail - if so, they'll get progressively worse with more smoke at overrun/idle and increasing oil consumption.
