For which engine ?

Each one will benefit from lighter flywheel ... as long as you don't get mad by going way to light there will be no idling/stalling issues .

3.7kg's ?! .. sounds heavily anorexic !

Dunno about std. gti6 flywheel , but 1.9 8v/16v weights 7kg's and 1.6 8v 6kg's .

GTi-6 flywheel is 6.5kg or thereabouts as standard.

Lightened flywheel does make a noticeable difference, with the engine more responsive and quicker to rev/accelerate, in lower gears particularly. You'll normally need a few more revs to pull away and it will be easier to stall if you're clumsy with the clutch, but nothing major.

If it's a standard flywheel that's been machined, make sure that it's been done by someone reputable, as a poorly made one runs the risk of exploding - especially with enough material removed to make it sub 4kg! If it's a RichW / Lynx / TTV flywheel, make sure it's not one of the early batch as these weren't machined properly and tend to chew up the starter ring gear - later ones are generally fine though.

If you're buying used, make sure that the timing teeth haven't been machined off as they're needed for the GTi-6 ECU (no needed for cars running carbs and a dizzy, hence they're sometimes machined off to save weight)
