Stop Light Not Working

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

If the STOP light no longer works on my 1987 205 gti 1.9 and it isn't the bulb, where would you suggest I look first?

Thanks,

Oil pressure switch and the wiring to it (assuming that the low oil pressure light doesn't come on either of course)

But the oil pressure gauge on the dash is working and reads normal temperature, so how can it be that?

The oil pressure gauge is driven from a different sender to the low pressure warning light.

The STOP lamp on ignition-on is triggered from the oil pressure switch.

Thus if the oil pressure switch/wiring isn't working, neither does the STOP light.

Ahhh! So which pressure switch do I need to check? ie where would I find it? Sorry for the dumb questions but I rarely have engine ancillary problems!

There are two senders on the front of the engine block, underneath the inlet manifold and to the side of the alternator.

One is a large, mushroom shaped sender - this is for the oil pressure gauge.

The other is a smaller sender - this is for the oil pressure switch.

Each has a single wire with a spade terminal leading to it.
