Head Work Advice

- Fit a 1.6 GTI Gearbox

- The cam timing as standard is for Emissions/Smooth idle, get your engine builder/Mapper to recommend/time the cams to a more aggressive setting within the safety margins for a GTI6 engine. What was the cam timing set too?

- Fit a set of piper regrinds c.£250 + remap & cam timing + trumpet length etc

Zsara box and LSD are waiting for payment when I get paid next week (don't tell the mrs lol)

I'm not wanting the work to be done as yet, I'm planning future work and working out pricing to see where I need to be heading (cash wise) when the work gets done...

The gearbox will allow me to enjoy the car with the added acceleration given by the short ratio's and I will be enjoying it for a whole to come!!

Having given the advise on here a lot of thought today (no Internet at work so couldn't come on here) I am now of the opinion that I will be carrying out the work mentioned above, but not yet!! I'm going to lean back into my nice full leather, change the 'box, and learn my power curves and gear changes to get the best out of the car for a while :)

As some have already said, my block was installed by someone who I have been recommending to friends local to me and would recommend to anyone!! The job completed is very tidy, complete and professional!!

I'll update about the megane when I have the new 'box in :) lol

Exactly that... Hence the standard lump being tested soon :)

Which will tell you FA about yours.

I have my suspicions that could be a large part of the issue.

If you try and drive it like a diesel (which given you have one, seems plausable) it's not going to be particularly quick and even cars that are slower on paper will quite easily get a jump on you which would explain the Megane. Obviously I've not seen the power curve for your particular engine, but generally speaking on a GTi-6, keep it between 4000 and 7000rpm and it'll go very nicely indeed and be quicker than (or at least on par with) all but the hottest of new hatches.

That normally means dropping a gear when pulling out for an overtake for example, rather than just putting your foot down and leaving a cloud of soot in your wake as you do in a derv.

I have to agree with the above. I have had a 306 HDi for the last 10 years and normally change gears around 2000rpm. When I jump into my 306 S16, which I have only had for a few months, I tend to drive it like the HDi. I always forget at first but when I remember :D

I see what you mean, and although like you rightly say I do have a dirty durv also, I am more used to driving a petrol than a diesel. Previous to the 205 was a 406 coupe D8 v6. This was my pride and joy and had it rr'd at 215.5bhp. Obviously I took this with rr readouts in mind, but I had had it previously read at 192 before I did anything to it.

I have been keeping my revs at a reasonable level when driving "normally" but when the urge (read as race) take me then I have it foot to the floor right round to 7500 and change as quickly as I can...

On a plus note, I filled up with V-Power today, and have to say that she feels a lot more responsive, and actually feels like she's pulling slightly harder at lower revs?? The tank was as good as empty when I topped up, so the V-Power will have had its optimum desired effect... Maybe it's my wishful thinking, I'll have a play over the weekend and see what's what....

I recon you started this thread to earn a Hot lable  I only use high oct in mine and even though its a torquey motor ( might have spelt that wrong) you need to use the gears. On my rally one if i get a gear wrong ie too high on change up it will bog down ! :)

A what?? Lol

I'm not useless with my gear changes, I can change quick at high revs and into the right gear and it will still bogg down with the 1.9 'box that's in there at the moment... I'm looking forward to getting the new box in soon and I have a feeling with the LSD and zsara 'box it may well transform the car a fair bit!!
